Bartending License Requirements for West Virginia

In West Virginia there aren’t any state regulations in place that require a server or bartender to be licensed in order to sell alcohol. Thus, server-training is not required nor regulated by the state.

It is important to keep in mind though that some employers will require bartenders to complete server-training regardless of state jurisdiction. If so, or if you would just like to be one step ahead of your competition, we recommend the training provided by Serving Alcohol.

Minimum Age To Serve Alcoholic Beverages In West Virginia

As of May, 2021, bartenders only need to be 16 years of old to serve alcoholic beverages when under the supervision of someone 21 years or old. Bartenders who are 18 or older may serve alcoholic beverages without the restriction of an overseer.

Prior to May, 2021, bartenders were required to be 18 years old in order to bartend.
